Just an update

As you can tell, I haven’t been updating much.  Too much happening in my mundane life to really have time for SCA.  I still want to get back to parts of it, but time will tell.  For now, I am semi-retired from the SCA, but more projects may show up.

Homebrew project #1 redux : Hard Apple Cider Update #2

Well, I sort of forgot to update my blog with the progress of this.  It finished brewing and has since be drunk.  It actually turned out pretty good.  Next time I will have to see about bottling it and maybe even carbonating it.  But for a first pass, it turned out pretty good!

Homebrew project #1 redux : Hard Apple Cider Update #1

Just posting a quick update to say that it is still bubbling away, however, it has slowed down quite a bit over the last 24 hours or so.  Time to start thinking about what to do next.

Homebrew project #1 redux: Hard Apple Cider

Well, the first try at doing this is unknown. Due to things beyond my control, I don’t know how it all turned out. So, I am going to retry the same thing again starting today. Exact same set up as before. This time I should be able to actually see how it turns out.

Homebrew project #1: Hard Apple Cider Update #1

After about 10 days it appears that the fermenting has finally stopped.  It is still sitting in the jugs that the cider came in, I want to give it a few more days to settle before I try to figure out what to do with it next.  Life has sort of gotten in the way of things so I may need to redo this again.  We will see what I end up with later this week.

Another Armor Update

Well, yet again, I have been slacking on updating my blog. I really should update it more often, but whatever. Having finished everything I need to actually fight on the field, I have started on my next project, full finger gauntlets. These are turning out to be a real pain in the butt and I haven’t even started on the actual fingers yet. The angles that I need to bend the steel are very odd and it does make for some challenges.  I have spent about 6 hours on them so far and I only have part of 1 set almost done.  This is going to be a very long term project.

Homebrew project #1: Hard Apple Cider

Well, I have started my first project in brewing, finally.  I decided to go super simple for my first project.  I am going to make fermented apple juice, AKA, hard apple cider.  It is cheap, easy, and simple.  Perfect for my first project.  I started with 100% pure organic, pasteurized apple juice from Sprouts.  I then added some English Cider Yeast from White Labs, added a stopper and a airlock and let it go.  It was started yesterday.  Here is a picture at about 24 hours after starting.

Another Armor Update.

Last Friday I again went to work on my arms.  I fired the elbows to harden them.  Now the long grind, literally.  Getting all the forge-scale off is quite a challenge.  It is going to take a while for me to finish this step.  But I am making progress and progress is good.  This is it for now, hopefully the new year brings much progress to my finished armor set.

Armor Night

Well, I am very very very close to having a complete set of armor for myself now.  I have made a new backplate for my armor since the original one is cracking badly.  I even have pictures!  All I need to do is attach the buckles to the new back once it finishes setting.  Then, it is off to finish my arms.

New backplate with front.

December update.

Well, it has been awhile, again.  Mainly because I haven’t done much blog worthy.  I have done little things, but nothing too major.  Nothing that has been completed.  I have just inched forward with my armor.  I started new elbows.  Since last time I updated, I have been to 3 events.  War of Ages, which I was very disappointed in myself at and wasn’t able to fight.  The BG fall baronial, which I mainly stayed in the kitchen for.  And then there was BAM (Bordermarch Autumn Melees).  That was the most fun I have had at an event in a long time.  I also got my “shaky knees” award there for my first kill in BAM.  I was in good company, since the King of Gleann Abhann also got his.  Other than that, not much has happened.  I am going to start trying to take my fighting up a notch this month.  Get in some more training and such.  Next month I have been drafted to help with the Nobles lunch and dinner for crown tourny that we are hosting.  I am going to try really really hard to go to Gulf Wars next March.  We will see if work will cooperate with that.  That is about it from me.  I will update as I have things to update.
